Bulldozer Driver Discovery

A bulldozer driver has unearthed an amazing hoard of ice age fossils to rival those of La Brea Tar Pits.
The driver was working at the Zeigler Resevoir, near Snowmass Village, in Colorado, and unearthed the remains of a Mammoth.

The site has huge potential, and so far bones from over 20 different animals have been discovered, including Mastodon, Mammoth, Bison, Sloth, Deer, and Salamander.

An ancient glacial sea once covered the area, which filled with peat, clay, and silt as the glaciers retreated. The remains of the animals were preserved by a combination of mud and peat.

The site is only one of a very few in North America that contains the remains of both Mastodon and Mammoth in the same location.
In addition there is also a large array of plant and insect life.

The prospect of further finds in the future is very exciting, and a team from Denver Natural History museum is visiting the site again during 2011.
